The Tata Nexon provides more choices than the Renault Kiger, with its petrol, diesel and factory CNG models, while the Kiger focuses predominantly on naturally aspirated and turbocharged petrol engines. The Kiger can claim to achieve approximately 20.38 km/l of fuel economy with its petrol engine, while the Nexon petrol manual rates at 17.44 km/l. In terms of actual driving, the Kiger’s petrol performance is greater than the Nexon’s; however, the Nexon compensates with its superior diesel and CNG engines.

The Kiger is lighter, cheaper and more economical if you want a conventional petrol SUV. The Nexon offers more power, a wider choice of transmissions and significantly lower running costs if you choose diesel or CNG. So, the better mileage choice depends largely on which fuel type suits your usage.

Table of Contents

Tata Nexon vs Renault Kiger Specs

Tata Nexon vs Renault Kiger ARAI Mileage Figures

Tata Nexon vs Renault Kiger Real-World Fuel Efficiency

Tata Nexon Diesel and CNG Mileage

Tata Nexon vs Renault Kiger Fuel Cost Comparison

Nexon Diesel and CNG Running Cost

Why Is the Renault Kiger More Fuel-Efficient on Petrol?

Tata Nexon vs Renault Kiger Price

Summary

FAQs About Tata Nexon vs Renault Kiger Mileage

Tata Nexon vs Renault Kiger Specs

The Tata Nexon is powered by a 1.2-litre three-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine that generates 120hp and 170 Nm of torque. Depending on the configuration options available, the Nexon can also be equipped with a manual, AMT, or 7-speed DCT transmission. A 1.5-litre diesel engine rated at 115hp and producing 260 Nm is available for the Nexon, again with both manual and AMT options available. The CNG-configured Nexon has a detuned version of the 1.2-litre turbo petrol engine that puts out approximately 100hp and 170 Nm.

The Renault Kiger uses a smaller 1.0-litre petrol engine. The naturally aspirated version produces 72PS and is available with manual or AMT, while the turbo-petrol produces 100PS and 160Nm and comes with a manual or CVT. The Kiger carries a 40-litre tank, compared with the Nexon’s 44 litres.

Specification

Tata Nexon

Renault Kiger

Base petrol engine

1.2L turbo-petrol

1.0L naturally aspirated petrol

Turbo petrol

120hp / 170Nm

100PS / 160Nm

Diesel

1.5L, 115hp / 260Nm

Not available

CNG

1.2L turbo CNG, ~100hp

Dealer retrofit on select manuals

Transmission

MT / AMT / DCT

MT / AMT / CVT

Drive layout

FWD

FWD

Fuel tank

44 litres

40 litres

Compared to the Renault Kiger, the Tata Nexon has the performance advantage; however, due to the weight of the Kiger being significantly less than that of the Nexon, the Kiger is focused on minimising the cost of both the petrol it consumes and the price consumers pay for the Kiger.

Used Renault Kiger Cars

Starting From

₹ 4 Lakh

Explore Pre-Owned Cars

Tata Nexon vs Renault Kiger ARAI Mileage Figures

The Nexon petrol manual is rated at 17.44 km/l, while the petrol AMT claims 17.18 km/l and the DCT 17.01 km/l. The factory CNG version is rated at 24 km/kg. The diesel’s current figure is less prominently surfaced, but the mechanically unchanged setup has previously been certified at around 23.23 km/l for the manual and 24.08 km/l for the AMT.

When looking at petrol models, Kiger offers superior fuel efficiency than the Nexon does. For both naturally aspirated manual and AMT models, Kiger’s figures range around 19.83 km/l; Kiger’s turbo has a maximum figure of approximately 20.38 km/l (approximately 1 km/l more, depending on the vehicle). Turbo CVT Kiger has a lower fuel efficiency rating of 17.63 km/l, which puts it almost on par with Nexon’s automatic petrol models.

Car

Engine & Transmission

Fuel Type

ARAI Mileage

Tata Nexon

1.2L petrol MT

Petrol

17.44 km/l

Tata Nexon

1.2L petrol AMT

Petrol

17.18 km/l

Tata Nexon

1.2L petrol DCT

Petrol

17.01 km/l

Tata Nexon

1.2L CNG MT

CNG

24 km/kg

Renault Kiger

1.0L NA petrol MT

Petrol

19.83 km/l

Renault Kiger

1.0L NA petrol AMT

Petrol

19.83 km/l

Renault Kiger

1.0L turbo MT

Petrol

~20.38 km/l

Renault Kiger

1.0L turbo CVT

Petrol

17.63 km/l

In terms of official petrol mileage figures, Kiger is also at the top of the list. Given that Kiger has a lighter body as well as smaller engines compared to Nexon, Kiger’s fuel efficiency under test conditions will naturally be higher than Nexon.

Tata Nexon vs Renault Kiger Real-World Fuel Efficiency

Current owner-reported averages give us one of the cleanest petrol-manual comparisons. The Nexon petrol manual sits around 16.03 km/l, while the Kiger petrol manual averages around 17.53 km/l. That gives the Kiger an advantage of roughly 1.5 km/l in normal use. Interestingly, because the Nexon has a larger 44-litre tank, its theoretical full-tank range is almost identical to the Kiger.

In terms of automatic transmissions, Renault’s Kiger Turbo CVT does offer better fuel economy than the Nexon does. In recent testing of Nexon’s 7-speed DCT automatic in both city conditions (approximately 7.7 km/l) and highway conditions (approximately 13.9 km/l), the average is around 10.8 km/l. The current testing data available for Kiger Turbo CVT indicates city mileage of around 10.41 km/l and highway mileage of around 15.56 km/l, with an average of approximately 13 km/l. Different test publications conducted these tests; therefore, any exact gap in fuel economy should be treated as indicative rather than a direct head-to-head comparison.

Nexon Petrol MT

Kiger Petrol MT

Nexon DCT

Kiger Turbo CVT

Real-world reference

16.03 km/l

17.53 km/l

~10.8 km/l

~13.0 km/l

Fuel tank

44L

40L

44L

40L

Approx. range

~705 km

~701 km

~475 km

~520 km

Overall, Kiger appears to have the edge in fuel economy both as a manual and as an automatic vehicle. While Nexon’s larger fuel tank does help with long-distance range, it does not help with overall cost per kilometre.

Also Read: Tata Nexon Mileage Comparison: Petrol vs CNG vs Diesel vs Electric

Tata Nexon Diesel and CNG Mileage

The Nexon’s advantage is that petrol is only one part of its lineup. Its 1.5-litre diesel has returned around 16.5 km/l in the city and 19.4 km/l on highways, giving a combined real-world reference close to 17.95 km/l. That makes it more efficient than either petrol SUV while also producing a strong 260Nm of torque.

Additionally, Nexon’s CNG model appears to be the most cost-effective option. In testing of the Nexon CNG, the vehicle achieved city mileage of around 15.1 km/kg and highway mileage of approximately 23.7 km/kg, giving it an average reference of approximately 19.4 km/kg. Kiger also offers a CNG retrofit option (on select naturally aspirated manual versions); however, there is currently insufficient mileage data available to provide a numerical comparison of Kiger’s CNG option against Nexon’s factory installation.

This means the Kiger wins if the comparison is strictly petrol versus petrol, while the Nexon becomes more attractive once diesel and factory CNG enter the picture.

Tata Nexon vs Renault Kiger Fuel Cost Comparison

On average, we project that every month we will drive 1,500 km, which equates to 18,000 km a year. The petrol price in New Delhi, as of September 2026, is estimated to be around ₹102.12 per litre. Based on current petrol reference figures, the Kiger will result in lower monthly fuel costs compared to the Nexon reference.

Nexon Petrol MT

Kiger Petrol MT

Reference Mileage

16.03 km/l

17.53 km/l

Monthly Fuel Use

93.6L

85.6L

Monthly Fuel Cost

₹9,556

₹8,738

Annual Fuel Cost

₹1.15 lakh

₹1.05 lakh

5-Year Fuel Cost

₹5.73 lakh

₹5.24 lakh

The Kiger will save approximately ₹820 each month, totalling approximately ₹9,800 per year and around ₹49,000 after driving 18,000 km over five years. This is substantial, especially since the Renault is also less expensive upfront.

For the turbo automatics, the available references widen the gap. A Nexon DCT at around 10.8 km/l works out to roughly ₹14,180 per month in petrol, while a Kiger Turbo CVT at around 13 km/l costs about ₹11,800. That is nearly ₹2,400 per month less for the Kiger, although different test methodologies mean the exact difference should be treated cautiously.

Nexon Diesel and CNG Running Cost

The Nexon diesel gives a fuel economy of 17.95 km/l, which, when using diesel priced at ₹95.20/litre and CNG priced at ₹80.09/kg (Delhi), shows that a user of Nexon diesel who travels 1500 km per month will spend approximately ₹7,950/month on fuel. Annually, this would amount to approximately ₹95,500 and a total of approximately ₹4.77 lakh over five years.

The Nexon CNG is cheaper still. At 19.4 km/kg, 1,500km requires roughly 77.3kg of CNG, costing around ₹6,190 per month. Annual fuel cost is about ₹74,300, while five years at the same rate comes to roughly ₹3.72 lakh.

Although the Kiger petrol is more economical to operate than the Nexon petrol, the Nexon CNG is the most economical choice overall. In addition, diesel remains more popular among long-distance users looking for maximum torque without switching to CNG.

Also Read:

Why Is the Renault Kiger More Fuel-Efficient on Petrol?

The Kiger’s advantage comes mainly from lower weight and smaller engines. Its naturally aspirated petrol produces 72PS, while even its stronger turbo version makes 100PS and 160Nm. The Nexon turbo-petrol produces 120hp and 170Nm, giving it more performance but also greater fuel demand when that performance is used.

The Kiger’s turbo manual has demonstrated that even with minuscule turbo engines, fuel efficiency can still be achieved, showing an efficiency of approximately 13.27 km/l for city driving and approximately 18.96 km/l for highway driving during the testing of the manual turbo. The Nexon will be far less fuel-efficient (in the equivalent petrol models) due to the additional weight and increased torque output when operating at similar speeds to the Kiger petrol, particularly in congested city conditions.

The trade-off is performance. The Nexon feels stronger under acceleration and offers more relaxed highway overtaking, while the Kiger’s biggest strength is extracting more kilometres from every litre of petrol.

Also Read: Renault Kiger Mileage Comparison: Petrol vs Turbo Petrol

Tata Nexon vs Renault Kiger Price

The Nexon is available in a range of petrol, diesel and CNG configurations with an overall ex-showroom price of ₹7,40,000 to ₹14,52,000; with this wide range of options, customers will have many different options to choose from – such as a lower initial purchase price, an automatic or a more fuel-efficient diesel engine, and the option of factory-installed CNG based on how they will be using the vehicle.

The Kiger is more affordable, ranging from approximately ₹5.81 lakh to ₹10.40 lakh. Its petrol manual averages around 17.53 km/l in current owner-reported data compared with 16.03 km/l for the Nexon, while available automatic testing also favours the Kiger Turbo CVT. Combined with its lower purchase price, that gives the Renault the stronger petrol ownership proposition.

On the other hand, the Nexon has a greater selection of powertrains. Real-world tests showed that the Nexon diesel gets approximately 17.95 km/l and is ideal for those who drive long distances. The factory CNG version has combined mileage of around 19.4 km/kg and provides the lowest fuel costs of any in this comparison. Also, in petrol form, the Nexon’s output exceeds that of other vehicles.

Overall, choose the Renault Kiger if your priorities are petrol mileage, lower purchase price and affordable petrol running costs. Choose the Tata Nexon if you want stronger performance, diesel availability or factory CNG, with the CNG version being the cheapest option to run overall.

Also Read: Tata Nexon vs Kia Sonet: Real World Mileage Comparison

FAQs About Tata Nexon vs Renault Kiger Mileage

Q. Which has better petrol mileage, Tata Nexon or Renault Kiger?

The Renault Kiger has better petrol mileage.
