JSW MG Motor India has launched India\u2019s first mass-market plug-in hybrid SUV, MG Hector Tomahawk PHEV, at a starting price of Rs 25.70 lakh (ex-showroom). MG claims that this 7-seater plug-in hybrid SUV can drive over 115 km solely on its battery power and deliver combined mileage of 40 km\/l. The brand also states that the Hector Tomahawk PHEV can drive over 1,100 km on a full tank of fuel and a fully charged battery. The MG Hector Tomahawk PHEV is available in two variants: Exclusive and Essence. Moreover, MG is also offering the Hector Tomahawk PHEV with a Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) programme. Its BaaS prices start at Rs. 21.79 lakh, with a Rs. 3.20\/l battery subscription charge. The MG Hector Tomahawk will compete against the Mahindra XUV 7XO and Tata Safari.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As a plug-in hybrid SUV, the MG Hector is powered by both an engine and a battery. The Hector Tomahawk PHEV is MG\u2019s first product based on MG ADAPT, which stands for Advanced Drive Architecture Platform Technology. It is the brand\u2019s new intelligent architecture, which offers flexible mobility by accommodating battery-electric, plug-in hybrid, range-extended electric, and hybrid powertrains.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In competition with petrol- and diesel-powered rivals such as the Mahindra XUV 7XO and the Tata Safari, the Hector Tomahawk stands out with its plug-in hybrid powertrain. This powertrain consists of a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated Atkinson-cycle petrol engine<\/strong> paired with a 20.5 kWh battery pack<\/strong> and a permanent magnet electric motor. The engine produces 102 PS of power and 125 Nm of torque. The electric motor produces 201 PS of power and 237 Nm of torque. However, the combined output of the engine and electric motors is 198 PS of power and 230 Nm of torque.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The setup is mated to a dedicated hybrid automatic transmission (DHT). As a PHEV (Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle), the Hector Tomahawk offers four drive modes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
