Depending upon your location and electricity provider, the cost of charging an EV at home varies from Rs. 4 to Rs. 10 per kWh. In India, setting up a Public Charging Station (PCS) can be managed without a licence if the charging infrastructure is raised as per the norms and guidelines set by the government.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Also, after home charging, using a public charging facility is often the cheapest alternative for owners of electric cars and SUVs. This would mean that the final cost of charging your car in your home would be Rs. 6 x 40 kWh = Rs. 240. This would be the cheapest option to charge your car but it will also take longer to charge your EV. This option is best for overnight charging.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol start=\"2\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Public AC Charging Station\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>A public AC charging station typically generates from 7 to 22 kW of power. Suppose that your 60 kWh battery is charged at a public charging station that generates 20 kW of power. In this case, the total time required to charge your EV would be only 3 hours. Also, if we suppose that the public EV station charges Rs. 12 per kWh then the final cost of charging your EV would be Rs. 12 x 60 = Rs. 720. Also, the service tax and GST will be applicable on this amount.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Public AC charging stations are preferred because they provide a perfect balance of cost and convenience. They take longer time than fast DC charging points but the overall cost of charging your vehicle is also lower.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol start=\"3\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>DC Fast Charging Station\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>A DC fast charging station generates from 30 to 350 kW power. If your car battery capacity is 80 kWh and you use a DC fast charging port that generates 40 kW of power then you can charge your vehicle in only 2 hours. In the real world, this time is usually much less (ranges from 20 minutes to 45 minutes) as the fast DC charging ports generate much higher power.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Now, considering that the DC fast charging station charges Rs. 20 per kWh then the final cost will be Rs. 20 x 80 = Rs. 1600. The final EV charging bill will also include the service cost and GST.
