The new Hyundai i20 is vastly different from the previous model and brings a slew of changes. In India, the new Hyundai i20 is expected to be launched next year, and the Indian-spec i20 is expected to be considerably different from the model launched in Brazil. As we wait for Hyundai to make the announcement for the new i20 in India, here is a closer look at the new i20 launched in Brazil, and the changes expected for the new i20 for the Indian market.

New Hyundai i20: Design

The new Hyundai i20 is 4,130 mm long, 1,780 mm wide, 1,495 mm tall, and has a 2,580 mm-long wheelbase and 346-litre boot space.

The new Hyundai i20 is designed according to the brand’s latest ‘Art of Steel’ design language. The new design language consists of hard lines, creases in the bodywork, geometric lighting signatures, and makes the new i20 look more like a crossover than a hatchback. Up front, the i20 gets an all-new face, consisting of a larger hexagonal grille with a satin silver trim piece in the middle, a full-width light bar connecting the sharp headlamps, and Y-shaped daytime running lamps (DRLs). The side profile highlights 17-inch alloy wheels, the thick black cladding covering the i20’s bottom, and a distinct window line that kinks up towards the rear. At the rear, the new i20 gets a sculpted tailgate, roof spoiler, connected LED taillamps, and chunky cladding on the bumper.

New Hyundai i20: Interior and Features

New Hyundai i20 interior

On the inside, the new i20 gets a futuristic design and multiple interior colour themes –beige-grey, all-black, and black-grey. The minimalist and clean dashboard is dominated by a curved panel that consists of two 12.3-inch screens – one for the infotainment system and the other for the digital driver display. Below the touchscreens are vertically placed slim AC vents, and sandwiched between them is a gloss-black touch-sensitive panel for climate control. The new flat-bottom steering wheel with the ‘morse-code’ logo brings it in line with the new Hyundai Venue and the new Hyundai Verna.

In terms of features, the Brazil-spec model of the new i20 packs 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system, 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, 6-speaker sound system, connected car tech, paddle shifters, keyless entry with push button start/stop, wireless charging pad, automatic climate control with rear AC vents, three USB Type-C charging ports (two in front and one in rear).

For safety equipment, the Brazil-spec model of the new i20 features 6 airbags, hill hold assist, electronic stability control, rear wiper and washer, traction control, rear parking sensors, electronic parking brake with auto-hold, reverse parking camera, all-wheel disc brakes, and Level-2 ADAS safety suite.

New Hyundai i20: Engine and Transmission

The Brazil-spec model of the new i20 is available with two engines, which are compatible with 100% ethanol fuel. These engines include a 1-litre naturally aspirated engine, which produces 76 PS power and 94 Nm torque on petrol and 81 PS power and 100 Nm torque on ethanol, and comes mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox. Another one is a 1-litre turbo petrol engine, which produces 115 PS power and 172 Nm peak torque, and comes mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission.

What to expect from the new Hyundai i20 for India

The new fourth-gen Hyundai i20 is expected to be launched in India in 2027, and it is expected to be significantly different from the Brazil-spec model.

First, the Brazil-spec model of the new Hyundai i20 is over 4 metres long. In India, the i20 is under 4 metres in length to qualify for the sub-4m tax benefits. The current Hyundai i20 on sale was also shortened to meet regulations, and a similar change can be expected for the new India-spec i20.

With the introduction of E85 and E100 flex-fuel in India, it is expected that the Hyundai i20 will be one of the first cars from Hyundai’s portfolio to be fitted with a flex-fuel engine. This will increase the appeal of the premium hatchback as buyers look for more flex-fuel-compatible cars.

As far as features are concerned, Hyundai can add the Level-2 safety suite to the i20 package, though it might make the Korean hatchback costlier. Moreover, if the next Hyundai i20 starts offering ADAS, it can mirror the variant lineup of the Hyundai Venue, which also offers ADAS features.

Here is a closer look at the new i20 launched in Brazil, and the changes expected for the new i20 for the Indian market.

[3
394,5097,2042
post-531255","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-news","tag-hyundai-i20","tag-new-car-launch","tag-new-hyundai-car
["GET
