The German automaker has revealed the Volkswagen Tayron R-Line, marking its re-entry into the premium 7-seater SUV segment after the Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace was discontinued in 2021. To be slotted above the Volkswagen Tiguan R-Line, the Volkswagen Tayron R-Line will be Volkswagen\u2019s flagship car in India. A key point to note is that while its smaller sibling, the Tiguan R-Line, is imported as a completely built unit (CBU), the Tayron R-Line will be locally assembled. Volkswagen Tayron R-Line: Dimensions and Design<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The Volkswagen Tayron R-Line measures 4,792 mm long, 1,866 mm wide, and 1,665 mm tall, with a wheelbase of 2,789 mm. The premium German 7-seater SUV offers a boot space of 345 litres with all three rows up and 850 litres with the third row folded down.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Compared to the Volkswagen Tiguan R-Line, the Volkswagen Tayron R-Line is 253 mm longer, 7 mm wider, 9 mm taller, and has a 109 mm longer wheelbase.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Volkswagen Tayron R-Line is based on the same MQB Evo platform that underpins the 5-seater Volkswagen Tiguan R-Line, but it has been stretched to accommodate a third row. At the front, the Tayron R-Line looks much like the Tiguan R-Line. Like the Tiguan R-Line, it gets an LED light bar above the grille that connects the LED DRLs to form a full-width lighting strip. The gloss black front bumper has a latticed pattern, which covers the air dam.In profile, the Tayron R-Line rides on 19-inch dual-tone alloy wheels similar to those on the Tiguan R-Line. The side design is also largely similar, although the proportions are longer to accommodate the third row. The slim gloss black cladding covers the bottom of the SUV, and a slim silver trim, which starts from the bottom of the A-pillar, runs over the top of the windows, and broadens at the D-pillar, adds nice brightwork to the side profile. At the fairly upright rear, the bumper gets the same gloss black latticed finish as the front, while the tail lamps feature large pixel-like elements and are connected by a light bar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Inside, the Volkswagen Tayron R-Line is nearly identical to the Tiguan R-Line and gets an all-black interior theme with blue stitching on the seats and dashboard. Like the Tiguan R-Line, there is pixelated ambient lighting on a gloss black panel on the dashboard, the touchscreen is angled towards the driver’s seat, and the flat-bottom steering wheel has three spokes. However, unique to the Tayron R-Line is the silver trim that spans the width of the dashboard.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In terms of features, the Volkswagen Tayron R-Line offers a 15-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, a panoramic sunroof, two wireless phone chargers, 3-zone climate control with rear vents, 30-colour ambient lighting, 12-way powered front seats with heating, massage, and memory functions, an 11-speaker Harman Kardon sound system, an augmented reality (AR)-based head-up display (HUD), a powered tailgate, and more.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For safety equipment, the Volkswagen Tayron R-Line offers nine airbags, disc brakes on all four wheels, electronic stability control, hill start control, TPMS, hill descent control, a 360-degree camera, front and rear parking sensors, an electronic parking brake, a Level-2 ADAS safety suite, and more. Notably, the Volkswagen Tayron R-Line SUV achieved a 5-star rating in the Euro NCAP safety test in 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Volkswagen Tayron R-Line: Engine and Transmission<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The Volkswagen Tayron R-Line is powered by the same 2.0-litre turbo petrol engine, which also powers the Volkswagen Tiguan R-Line. This engine produces 204 PS of power and 320 Nm of peak torque, and comes paired with a 7-speed DCT automatic with an all-wheel-drive system. The Tayron also gets adaptive dampers (Dynamic Chassis Control), allowing the driver to make the suspension stiffer or softer as preferred.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
