Hyundai has long been recognised as one of the top automobile brands in India, with cars like the Grand i10 Nios, Venue, Creta, and Verna. However, the company has also entered the premium electric-vehicle segment. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The most expensive Hyundai car currently sold in India is the Hyundai IONIQ 5. Priced at \u20b955.70 lakh ex-showroom, it sits far above the Creta Electric, Alcazar and other models in Hyundai\u2019s Indian portfolio.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
IONIQ 5 is not just any electric SUV; it is built on a special electric-only platform with an 84 kWh battery, its advanced 800-volt electric architecture and different premium features that are not available in regular Hyundai cars.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Globally, Hyundai sells even more expensive models, including the three-row IONIQ 9 and the high-performance IONIQ 5 N. However, these models are not currently available through Hyundai India.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hyundai launched the new IONIQ 5 in India in April 2026. This model supersedes the previous one, which used a 72.6 kWh battery and was selling at a lower price of \u20b946 lakh.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The current model receives a larger battery, increased claimed range, revised styling and updated cabin technology. It remains a fully imported or limited-volume premium product compared with Hyundai\u2019s locally produced cars.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
However, this price is above the normal buyers of Hyundai, who often spend lower amounts of money. It is expected that the IONIQ 5 will compete with low-end luxury electric SUVs and electric SUVs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Access to chargers with power equal to 350 kilowatts is restricted in many localities in India, meaning that the actual charging times can be higher than those calculated theoretically.<\/p>\n\n\n\n What Changed in the 2026 Hyundai IONIQ 5?<\/h2>\n\n\n\nThe earlier India-spec IONIQ 5 used a 72.6 kWh battery and had a claimed ARAI range of 631 km. The updated model increases battery capacity to 84 kWh and raises the claimed range to 690 km.<\/p>\n\n\n\n This new version has also considerably improved the software updating functions for the device via the Internet and updated the steering wheel and implemented modern connected-car technology.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The IONIQ 5 costs considerably more than the Creta Electric because it belongs to a different class of electric vehicle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The charging device used in the IONIQ 5 car is known as the Electric Global Modular Platform, or E-GMP. This platform is different from those used in electric cars that were designed based on existing models powered by combustion engines, as the platform is specifically developed for electric vehicles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n This helps provide a flat floor, a long wheelbase, more cabin space and better packaging of the battery and electric components.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Battery capacity used by the above-mentioned model is much higher than battery capacity used in less expensive models, which leads to it being more expensive to produce; however, the distance travelled on one charge is greater.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Most affordable EVs use a lower-voltage architecture. The IONIQ 5\u2019s 800-volt system supports much faster charging when connected to a compatible high-output charger.<\/p>\n\n\n\n IONIQ 5 has such functions as electric reclining seats, connected displays, numerous driver-assistant features, and a spacious passenger cabin. The long distance between the axles provides more space for passengers than it may seem at first glance using only external dimensions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The IONIQ 5 is not produced and sold in the same volumes as the Creta or Venue. It retains the characteristic Creta layout and functionality, but it replaces the gasoline or diesel engine with an electric motor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n It is considerably more affordable than the IONIQ 5 and easier to position as a family\u2019s primary city car. However, it does not use the same large battery, premium platform or ultra-fast charging system.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Hyundai has also introduced a Battery-as-a-Service scheme in some of their models. Under this system, the price shown for the car does not include the price of the battery. This means that the buyer has to pay the battery rental price based on usage.
