The popular Czech carmaker, Skoda has launched its first compact SUV, Skoda Kylaq at a starting price of Rs. 7.89 lakh (ex-showroom). The Kylaq is the smallest Skoda SUV and its name is derived from the Sanskrit word for \u201ccrystal.\u201d The European auto-giant says the car is inspired by Mount Kailash and like the names of the existing Skoda SUVs in India, Kushaq and Kodiaq, the name of this SUV starts from \u2018K\u2019 and ends at \u2018Q.\u2019 Here is everything you need to know about the Skoda Kylaq.<\/p>\n\n\n

Skoda Kylaq: Design & Dimensions<\/h2>\n\n\n

The Skoda Kylaq is 3,995 mm long, 1,783 mm wide, 1,619 mm tall, and has a wheelbase of 2,556 mm. Moreover, it has ground clearance of 189 mm and boot space of 446 litres.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With the Kylaq, Skoda has debuted its new design language in India, which is seen on the international model Skoda Elroq electric SUV. At the same time, the Kylaq is built on the same MQB A0 IN which also underpins the Skoda Kushaq and therefore, there are many design similarities. At the front, there is the split headlamp setup and the traditional butterfly grille flanked by LED DRLs. Lower down, there is a chunky bumper and the central air dam is embellished by a honeycomb pattern. The side profile highlights the 17-inch dual-tone alloy wheels and ORVM-mounted turn indicators. At the rear, the wraparound LED tail lights are connected by a black strip with ‘Skoda’ lettering embossed, whereas the rather upright bumper with a chunky skid plate gives it some muscle.<\/p>\n\n\n

On the inside, the Kylaq gets a dual-tone black and grey cabin with silver and chrome accents across the interiors. While the front section highlights the 2-spoke steering wheel, semi-leatherette upholstery and octagonal AC vents, the HVAC panel is shared with the Kushaq. In terms of features, the Kylaq offers a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, an 8-inch digital instrument cluster, cooled glove box, wireless phone charger, a single-pane sunroof, 6-way powered front seats with ventilation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For the safety equipment, the Kylaq gets six airbags (as standard), electronic stability control (ESC), traction control, ABS with EBD, electronic stability control, electronic differential lock, ISOFIX child seat mounts, and multi-collision braking.<\/p>\n\n\n

Skoda Kylaq: Engine & Transmission<\/h2>\n\n\n

The Kylaq is powered by the 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine which produces 115 PS power and 178 Nm torque. This engine is also offered with the Kushaq and Slavia, and in Kylaq, it\u2019s paired with either a 6-speed manual gearbox or a 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission.<\/p>\n\n\n
