Named after the iconic British aeroplane that participated in the 1934 England-Australia MacRobertson Air Race, the Comet is based on Wuling’s Air EV, which is already a hit in markets like Indonesia. The Comet is slated to go on sale in mid-2023, making it a highly anticipated launch considering it will be one of the few EVs on sale around the 10 lakh price point in India. Here’s everything about the MG Comet:

Table of Contents

Exterior

Interior & Features

Powertrain

Pricing

Summary

Exterior

This compact and stylish electric vehicle is unlike anything that’s currently available in the Indian market. The Comet EV’s design is inspired by its sister brand Wuling’s Air EV, which is sold in markets like Indonesia. Measuring just 2.9 metres in length, the car is the perfect choice for city runabouts.

The front fascia boasts a two-tone finish, and the wraparound strip under the windscreen has LED lighting elements that end in the wing mirrors. The stubby nose gives it a futuristic look that will definitely turn heads. The asymmetrical window line with dual-tone paint finish and small wheels pushed to the edges make the profile stand out. The rear end design mimics the front fascia, making it appear well-rounded.

Interior & Features

While the car is certainly small, the dedicated skateboard platform specifically designed for EVs allows the car to be spacious on the inside and comfortably seats 4 passengers. Although MG hasn’t yet revealed interior images, we can expect a dual-screen infotainment set-up, consisting of two 10.25-inch screens, connected car tech, dual-tone interiors with quality materials, voice commands, wireless Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and even a sunroof.

Powertrain

The upcoming MG Comet EV is anticipated to be equipped with a battery pack of approximately 20-25kWh capacity that will be sourced locally from Tata AutoComp. According to reports, this battery will provide a driving range of up to 300km, which will likely be certified by iCAT, as was done with the ZS EV, another electric car from MG. A single front-axle motor with an output of around 50kW (68hp) is anticipated to power the Comet.

Pricing

The Comet EV is expected to be positioned as a feature-packed premium small car, and thus will be priced at Rs 10 lakh (ex-showroom). MG has managed to pull off 60% localisation to compete with established players and bring down the price. The Comet EV will directly rival the Tiago EV, and the Citroen eC3, and looks like a good option for those looking for a premium drive in the small car segment, something which isn’t in the Indian car market yet.

Summary

In conclusion, the MG Comet is a practical and efficient urban runabout EV that is perfect for those who want a manoeuvrable, agile, compact, affordable and offbeat way to do their daily drives: from going to office to picking up groceries. Further peace of mind is offered through the fast-charging capabilities and range of up to 260 kilometres.

The Indian automobile market is about to get a jolt with the upcoming launch of MG Motors’ newest offering – […]

[3
5097
post-508802","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-news","tag-new-car-launch
["GET
