The Tata Sierra has scored a 5-star rating in the Bharat NCAP safety test. Here is how the Indian SUV performed in the crash test.

As expected, Tata Sierra has scored a full 5-star safety rating in the Bharat NCAP crash test, officially becoming one of the safest cars in India. The Sierra has scored a 5-star rating for both adult and child occupancy. While the Sierra already has many qualities that make it a compelling offering in the mid-size SUV segment, the 5-star Bharat NCAP rating adds another feather to its cap. Here is how well the Tata Sierra performed in the Bharat NCAP crash test.

Tata Sierra: Adult Occupant Protection

In the frontal offset deformable barrier test, the Sierra provided good protection to most critical parts of both driver and front passenger. However, protection to the chest and tibiae of the driver, and right tibia of the front passenger was reported to be adequate, as the SUV scored 15.14 out of 16 points. In the side movable deformable barrier test as well as the side pole impact test, the Sierra offered good protection to all critical parts of the driver and the front passenger.

Tata Sierra: Child Occupant Protection

44.73 out of 49 in COP

In the child occupant protection (COP) test, the Sierra scored a total of 44.73 points out of 49. The Indian SUV had dummies of an 18-month-old baby and a 3-year-old baby, facing the rearward direction in the child occupant protection test. The 18-month-old child dummy scored 7.73 out of 8 points in the frontal crash test, while the 3-year-old dummy scored a full 8 out of 8 in the same test. Meanwhile, both dummies scored 4 out of 4 points in the side crash tests. The Sierra earned a full 23.73 out of 24 points in the dynamic test, 12 out of 12 points in CRS (child restraint system), and 9 out of 13 in the vehicle assessment test.

Tata Sierra: Platform, Safety Features, and Price

The Tata Sierra is built on the ARGOS platform – All-terrain Ready, Omni-Energy and Geometry Scalable Architecture. Ready for an all-wheel-drive setup, this versatile, modern monocoque chassis is designed for 4.3 to 4.7-meter vehicles, and it supports multiple powertrains: petrol, diesel, hybrid, and electric.

The Sierra offers multiple safety features as standard, for example, 6 airbags, all-wheel disc brakes, rear parking sensors, electronic parking brake with auto hold, traction control, and ABS with EBD, and more. Higher variants also offer a 360-degree camera, Level-2 ADAS safety suite, an auto-dimming IRVM, a blind spot monitor, and more.

The Tata Sierra costs Rs. 11.49 – 21.29 lakh (ex-showroom), and competes against the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Maruti Grand Vitara, Toyota Hyryder, Maruti Victoris, Skoda Kushaq, Volkswagen Taigun, Honda Elevate, MG Astor, and Renault Duster.
