Exteriors
Based on a platform that underpinned the Audi A1 10 years ago, the Volkswagen Polo was carved out of a simple yet effective design language. As a result the Polo came wearing a timeless design that has aged gracefully.

Receiving several updates over the years, the VW Polo still continues to be one of the hottest looking hatchbacks in India. Overall, the VW Polo sported a clean swept back headlamp design with halogen bulbs that looked stylish and modern. On either side of the headlamps was the horizontal grille that had a triple chrome slat design dominated by a large Volkswagen logo at the centre. The bonnet got some muscular creases that ran from the edge of the grille and integrated into the A-pillars. Overall, the VW Polo’s industrial and minimal design has stood the test of time with a blend of curvy and edgy elements.

From the side, the Polo did a superb job in looking like a mean machine with an evidently raised suspension and increased ground clearance of 168 mm. The wheel arches were muscularly raised to give the German hatchback a sportier stance. The chunky seven spoke alloy wheels looked dapper and even the ORVMS were body-colored.

The rear too looks balanced, with a large body-colored bumper and a minimalistic tail lamp design. In terms of overall looks, the rear complements the overall German theme of the vehicle and gives the vehicle a holistically elegant approach.
Exterior Key Highlights
- Dual chamber headlamps
- 16-inch alloy wheels
- Sporty, modern design
- 168 mm of ground clearance
Interiors

Once inside the VW Polo first thing you will notice is the fact that the interiors are synonymous with pure German design. The interiors feel durable and fully capable of handling abuse, which is also a reason why pre-owned Polo’s tend to shine over other competitors. The focus is placed on functionality and is evident from the entire layout of the dashboard. The three spoke steering wheel has a good hold and comes with rake as well as reach adjustments that are standard on every variant. The driver’s seat is height adjustable making it easy for you to find your perfect driving position.

The dashboard looks well laid out with all crucial controls conveniently placed at an arm’s length. The centre is dominated by a double din stereo that is given chrome treatment as well. The Polo is also one of the very few vehicles to have Euro-style control stalks (indicator on the left, wipers on the right).

Rear seats are also comfortable but are meant for 2 passengers at max with the third one feeling a bit squeezed. The rear headroom however, is more than enough for even passengers taller than 6ft. Finally coming to storage, the Polo has top-notch storage spaces. The glove box was the largest amongst hatchbacks back then while the B-pillars had a pair of innovatively placed bag hooks. Boot space was at 280 liters, one of the largest from this segment.
Interior Key Highlights
- Durable interiors
- Climate Control AC
- Large boot space of 280 litres
- Spacious cabin
- Ample Storage Spaces
- Flat-Bottom Steering
