Launches of numerous cars have been delayed in India due to the coronavirus pandemic. After delays, automakers in India are now in the process of bringing in some of the best new cars. We have prepared a list of upcoming cars arriving between June and October. If you intend to purchase a new car anytime soon, this list will help you out greatly.

Skoda Octavia

For years, the Skoda Octavia has defined and ruled the premium executive sedan segment. The premium package of a comfortable interior and powerful powertrain has always meant the Skoda Octavia remained popular in India. In 2021, Skoda plans to launch the 2021 Skoda Octavia for the Indian market.

What’s new?

The fourth-generation Octavia will differ from the previous model in various aspects, and design is the most prominent of them. Underpinning by the MQB platform has resulted in an impressively increased cabin space, due to a 19mm increase in length, and a 15mm increase in width. A wide butterfly-designed grill is spanned between sleek sharp-cut headlamps, linking them both. The executive sedan has a neatly narrowing roof to the uncluttered rear with snazzy LED tail lights.

Similar to the new Skoda Superb, the 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder, TSI petrol engine will power the new Skoda Octavia, and will churn up 190 PS of power with 320 Nm of peak torque. The power transmission will be done with the 7-Speed DSG. Safety parameters have been remarkably supported by almost 8 airbags, tire-pressure monitoring system, ESP, multi-collision braking system, two-spoke steering wheel, and ISOFIX child seat anchors.

Hyundai Alcazar

Hyundai Alcazar is a blend of versatility and modern approach. The new 6- and 7-seater SUV will revolutionise the driving experience and will be the first step of Hyundai into the 7-seater segment.

What’s new?

Hyundai Alcazar is a 6- or 7-seater derivative of Hyundai’s midsize SUV-Creta. Along with it, the car shares Creta’s platform, but with a longer wheelbase (2,760 mm) to allow itself extra seat-rows. Power will be transmitted from 2.0 litre petrol and 1.5 litre diesel engines, through 6-speed manual and 6-speed automatic transmission. The petrol engine of Hyundai Alcazar is the same as in Elantra and Tucson, but this time it’s machined to generate 159PS of power with 191 Nm of peak torque, while the diesel engine which is the same one as in Creta will generate 115PS of power with 250 Nm of peak torque.

Volkswagen Taigun

Currently, the SUV segment is the zone of focus for Volkswagen. Not only the facelifted Tiguan, but the new Volkswagen Taigun is another addition Volkswagen’s new SUV-focused strategy for India.

The MQB A0 IN platform in the car ensures improved safety and 95% localised production.  The elevated seating in Volkswagen Taigun will facilitate superior all-around visibility and an intrinsic sense of safety. With a wheelbase of 2651 mm, the 5-seater SUV will sport a sunroof, digital cockpit, etc. In the safety zone, Taigun is installed with up to 6 airbags. The 1.0 litre TSI petrol engine will transmit power through either a 6-speed manual or 6-speed torque converter transmission. The 1.5 litre TSI EVO petrol engine will transmit power through either a 6-speed manual or 7-Speed DSG.

Volkswagen Tiguan

Another Volkswagen SUV family member, the facelifted Volkswagen Tiguan will soon be joining the string of automobile launches. Among some significant updates, there will be a new 2.0 turbocharged petrol engine.

A salient change from the earlier 7-seater Tiguan Allspace is that the facelifted Tiguan will have a seating capacity of 5 people. Along with a tapered ending sharp-cut design, the headlamps will feature a new LED matrix. The side looks of the car have been embellished by modern-designed 18-inch alloy wheels. The new Volkswagen Tiguan will offer an all-wheel-drive system powered by a 2.0 litre TSI petrol engine, which will produce 190 PS of power with 320 Nm of peak torque, and be paired with a 7-Speed DSG.

Mahindra XUV700

In recent years, Mahindra has started refreshing their entire SUV lineup, and the first product was the ever-popular 2020 Mahindra Thar. In the coming months, the Indian carmaker will be launching new SUVs in its XUV line, starting with the Mahindra XUV700 7 seater SUV.

What’s new?

Along with the abundance of advanced features, Mahindra XUV700 will have a riveting dashboard specced with a dual-screen setup (also in Mercedes) for the infotainment system and digital instrument panel. In addition to the regular interiors of most of the 7-seater SUVs, the higher trims of this exceptional car will possess Autonomous Driving Assist Systems that will bring in adaptive cruise control, front collision warning, and lane-keeping assist. The car is significantly bigger than XUV500 with a longer wheel-base and increased width. In the process of making these adjustments, Mahindra has designed a more robust chassis. An all-new 2.2 litre turbocharged diesel engine and a 2.0 litre turbocharged petrol engine will power the car with the help of a 6-Speed manual and 6-Speed torque converter automatic transmission.

When is it coming?

The launch of the Mahindra XUV700 has been postponed multiple times and now the car is expected to arrive Indian market in the second half of 2021, possibly in October. The car will rival MG Hector plus, Tata Harrier, Kia Seltos, Hyundai Creta, Tata Safari, and Hyundai Alcazar.

Toyota Hilux

Toyota will soon be launching its sturdy pick-up truck named ‘Hilux’. Toyota Hilux will be based on the IMV-2 platform, which also underpins Innova Crysta and Fortuner.

What’s new?

Toyota Hilux will be much longer than Innova Crysta and Fortuner, given it’s 5.3m of length with 3m of wheelbase. A leaf-spring suspension system underpinning the double-cab truck at the rear will help it haul any kind of terrain. Along with bi-beam LED projectors and Alloy wheels, Hilux will sport swept-back headlights and DRLs (in higher trims).

Toyota Hilux may come with a 2.4 litre diesel engine in two-wheel drive variants, which is also in Innova and produces 150hp. And the higher variants will come with a 2.8 litre diesel engine (also in Fortuner), paired with manual or automatic transmission. The truck will come with 2- or 4- wheel drive.
