Tata Tiago Powertrains & Range

The Tata Tiago will be powered by Tata’s Ziptron electric platform. This is the same platform that is used on the Nexon EV and the Tigor EV. The Ziptron platform uses a permanent magnet synchronous electric motor, which is capable of achieving a 0-60 kmph sprint in just 5.7 seconds. In more relatable terms, you will be the fastest accelerating hatchback at any traffic light (unless a Mercedes AMG A45 pulls alongside).

Range is a significant selling point for any electric car , and in the case of the Tiago EV, Tata is offering two battery packs to offer a short range and a long range option in the lineup. The short range variants of the Tiago EV features a 19.2 kWh battery that has a claimed MIDC range of 250 km while the long range variants feature a 24 kWh battery, rated for a 315 km MIDC range. Tata is also offering two charging options on the Tata Tiago EV. All variants are available with a slow 3.3 kWh AC charger while the XZ+ and XZ+ Tech Lux variants get the faster 7.2 kWh AC charger.

Tata Tiago EV Exterior

The Tiago EV is based on the the conventional fuel Tiago, retaining the dimensions of the Tiago. The front grille and fog lamps now feature blue accents to signify that this is the electric version of the Tiago. The Tiago EV also gets exclusive styled alloy wheels to further differentiate the electric hatchback. Apart from this, there is very little that is different from the conventional Tiago.

Tata Tiago EV Interior

Tata has improved the interiors of the Tiago EV with more premium materials and features. The fabric upholstery of the conventional Tiago has been replaced with leatherette upholstery on the EV. The steering wheel also gets updated to a flat bottom steering wheel which also features the controls for the cruise control, a feature that is available only on the electric version of the Tiago.

Apart from cruise control, the Tiago EV gets automatic AC as standard across its range. All variants except the XE get the 7-inch Harman touchscreen infotainment system along with a four speaker sound system. The XZ+ variants get an additional four tweeters, making the Tiago EV the best option for those who enjoy music while driving.

Tata Tiago EV Competitors

At the time of launch, the Tiago EV does not have any direct rivals in the market. It has first mover advantage and should be able to capture a fair chunk of the market before challengers arrive later this year. The most direct competitor will be the rumoured Citroen C3 EV, which should be able to match the Tiago EV on price and features. Another rival could come in the form of the 2-door electric car MG Motors that has been rumoured to arrive in India for some time.
