Turbo hatchbacks are fast becoming the standard in India owing to the improved fuel efficiency and responsive performance. Tata Motors is the latest to join the turbo hatchback competition with the launch of the Tata Altroz iTurbo.

What is the Tata Altroz iTurbo?

The Tata Altroz has been a successful premium hatchback since its launch in India in 2020. However, the lack of a turbo petrol variant meant that the Tata Altroz’s lineup remained incomplete. This was especially felt when the new 2020 Hyundai i20 launched with a turbo petrol variant while the Volkswagen Polo TSI remained a great choice for those looking for a reliable performer.

Tata has set things right by starting off the new year by announcing the launch of the Tata Altroz iTurbo. This new turbo petrol variant will join the rest of the Tata Altroz lineup, offering plenty of choice to prospective customers.

What is the specification of the Tata Altroz iTurbo?

The star of the Tata Altroz iTurbo is most definitely the new 1.2-litre turbo petrol engine. The new turbo petrol engine produces 110 PS of power and 140 Nm of torque. Power and torque has been increased by 20 PS and 27 Nm over the standard 1.2-litre petrol engine. The Tata Altroz will be paired with a 5-speed manual transmission. The Tata Altroz lineup still misses out on an automatic transmission, which is expected to launch later in the year.

One area where the Tata Altroz iTurbo falls behind the standard petrol variants is in mileage. The higher performance does mean the Tata Altroz iTurbo has a mileage of 18.13 kmpl, which is lower than the 21.1 kmpl on the standard petrol variant. The trade-off should still be worth it as the turbo petrol engine on the Tata Altroz should improve the overall driving experience.

What are the variants of the Tata Altroz iTurbo?

Tata Motors is offering the new Tata Altroz iTurbo in three variants. The Tata Altroz iTurbo will be available with the XT, XZ and the new XZ+ variants. The turbo petrol variants will be priced slightly higher than the standard petrol variants which range from ₹6.99 – ₹7.75 lakhs.

Tata Altroz Features

Tata has ensured that the Tata Altroz remains a feature-packed premium hatchback while undercutting the competition from the 2020 Hyundai i20 and the Volkswagen Polo TSI in terms of value.

  • 7-inch touchscreen infotainment display with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay
  • 8-speaker Harman sound system
  • Automatic headlights
  • Rain-sensing wipers
  • Connected car technology with Tata iRA and ConnectNext App
  • Turn-by-turn navigation
  • Standard front airbags and 5-star Global NCAP rating
  • Driving modes: Eco and City

What is Tata iRA on the Tata Altroz?

The higher variants of the Tata Altroz are also bundled with Tata’s iRA connected car technology. iRA stands for intelligent Real-time Assistant and provides connected car features for Tata car owners.

Tata car owners will be able to track their car remotely using geofencing technology. The connected nature of the technology also means owners get the benefit of automatic intrusion alert on their phones as well as vehicle-crash notifications to emergency contacts in the event of an accident.

Another benefit of the Tata iRA technology is the ability to give voice commands while driving. This combines well with the real-time car diagnosis feature which provides a quick overview of your car’s components and their condition.
