The process of RC transfer is the same as transfer of ownership of a vehicle. The RC transfer is mandatory once a used car is bought from the original owner and most RTOs, including those in Ahmedabad, require the transfer process to be initiated within 30 days of buying a second-hand car. The RC transfer is necessary to ensure that all the legal liabilities are transferred to the new owner of the car. In case one fails to apply for RC transfer within 30 days of date of purchase, they will have to pay a fine of Rs 500 per month for the delay in the initiation of ownership transfer procedure.

Step-by-Step Guide on How to Apply for Transfer Of Vehicle Ownership in Ahmedabad

The application for change in ownership of a vehicle has to be made through Form-29 and Form-30 and a pencil print of the chassis number of that vehicle is required. If the change in ownership of the vehicle is due to inheritance, then Form 31 and if the ownership transfer of the vehicle is due to public auction, then Form 32. The documents to be furnished along with the forms are RC book, Insurance certificate, PUC Certificate, address proof and ID proof of the new buyer.

The applicable fee of Rs. 150/- for 2-wheeler and Rs.300/- for motor car has to be paid. The tax that has to be paid will be around 15% of the original sum tax as transfer tax, but if the vehicle is more than 8 years old, then, tax at 1% or Rs. 100/- (whichever is higher) is to be paid. The steps to procure a RC transfer for a vehicle is simple. Read on to find the details on how to transfer vehicle ownership in the city of Ahmedabad.

Step 1 – Procurement of No Objection Certificate (NOC) From The Traffic Department: (Required if seller and buyer of used car reside in different RTO area)

If the transferee has bought a used vehicle that is not registered in Ahmedabad, then in that case, one has to de-register the vehicle at the original RTO by following the below mentioned steps –

  • Apply for a NOC with Form 28 and three copies of the Chassis print should be made.

  • If the used car has not been registered in any of the RTOs of Ahmedabad, then one will have to get a Form 29 from the original or previous RTO.

  • The other documents to be submitted along with the application are NCRB certificate from Police, a N.O.C. from the Financer, i.e., a bank, the original R.C. Book, a proof of address of the purchaser, the Certificate of Insurance  and a copy of the P.U.C. certificate.

Step 2- Visit the RTO With Documents

After receiving the NOC from the original RTO, the following documents has to be submitted at the local RTO (Ahmedabad) –

  • Original RC
  • Form 20, Form 27 and Form 33
  • NOC 
  • Attested copy of address proof 
  • Attested copy of the valid driving license of the car owner
  • Attested copy of the PUC Certificate
  • PAN Card, with Form 60, or Form 61
  • Passport-size photos of the Applicant
  • NOC from the bank, in case if the vehicle was under a loan

Step 3- Submission Of The Documents

Once all the required documents are submitted at the RTO, and the applicable fees are also paid, the RC transfer takes up to 60-90 working days.

Step 4 – Vehicle Re-Registration After Interstate Transfer: (Required if the vehicle is from different state)

Once the NOC is received from the previous RTO, then the new buyer has to re-register his/her vehicle from his/her local RTO. The following documents are required to be submitted at the RTO – 

  • Original RC from another state RTO
  • Form 20, the NOC from the previous RTO

  • Attested copy of address proof and driving license
  • Attested copy of the PUC Certificate, PAN Card, with Form 60, or Form 61 whichever applicable
  • Passport-size photos of the applicant 
  • NOC from the bank if the vehicle was under any loan.

Step 5 – Payment Of Road Tax

The new buyer might have to pay a road tax if the vehicle is not registered in Ahmedabad. The tax has to be paid at the local RTO while getting the vehicle registered. The tax that will be paid is based on the original invoice of the vehicle. Once the vehicle has been re-registered, the new buyer can claim a refund from the original RTO. The documents that are required for the claim reimbursement are –

  • Application for road tax refund
  • Updated and signed Form 16 (salary certificate of the applicant)
  • Copy of the new registration certificate and a copy of the old registration certificate
  • Insurance policy with new registration number
  • Proof of ID and address proof of the new buyer

The new owner of the used vehicle/ car can claim for the road tax refund from the other State’s RTO. 

Documents Required for the Transfer of the Vehicle Ownership in Chennai

For transferring of vehicle ownership one needs to submit the documents along with 

I) Form 29 and II) Form 30 are required

Documents to be Submitted With Form 1

  • Registration certificate and insurance certificate of the vehicle
  • Pollution Under Control Certificate of the vehicle
  • PAN card of the new owner
  • Engine and chassis pencil print of the vehicle
  • Residence and birth proof of the owner
  • Passport size photographs
  • Purchaser’s undertaking
  • Certificate to prove all taxes have been cleared

Documents to be Submitted With Form 2

  • A NOC from the registering authority
  • A document to validate the refusal of the concerned office in refusing a NOC
  • In case the NOC is not received, then submit a receipt from the registering authority, a receipt from the post office which received the NOC from the registering authority.

Vehicle Ownership Transfer online in Ahmedabad

If one wants to transfer the registration procedure online, then visit the parivahan website and arrange the below mentioned documents for the transfer of ownership.

  • Tax clearance certificate
  1. For Form 30
  • NOC certificate granted by the registering authority
  • An order of the registering authority in case of refusal to grant a NOC 
  • If the NOC is not received, a declaration stating that the NOC has not been received by the Transferer has to be submitted  
  • with the receipt obtained from the registering authority; 
  • or a postal acknowledgement received from the registering authority where the application for NOC was sent by post.

The fees for vehicle ownership transfer will vary from RTO to RTO.

Process for Vehicle Ownership Transfer online in Ahmedabad

  • Go to the Parivahan Sewa Website
  • Click on ‘Online Services’
  • Select ‘Vehicle Related Services’
  • Select the ‘State’ and wait for the web page to reload.
  • Click on ‘Vehicle Registration Number’
  • Enter the ‘Vehicle Registration Number’, ‘Select the State’
  • ‘Select the RTO’ and Click on ‘Proceed’
  • The Vehicle Registration no will be displayed. Enter the Chassis number and click on Verify details
  • Once the details of the vehicle are displayed on the page, fill the online form with the necessary details 
  • Then click on ‘Transfer of ownership details’

  • The fees of the transfer will displayed down further, enter the payment option and pay the applicable fee

  • Submit the application form by confirming on the confirmation box that will be shown on the webpage.

  • Once the application is submitted, the reference receipt will be generated
  • Next step is to pay the road tax, and then the transfer of ownership will be complete
  • Again visit the parivahan website and select the state, RTO and click on the proceed button
  • From the main menu, select RC related services to pay the tax
  • Enter the details of the registration number of the vehicle and check the pending amount for the road tax

Once the verification is done successfully, a new RC certificate will be generated in the name of the new owner. If there are any disparities, the RTO will notify the buyer and the seller to appear at the office of the RTO.

What documents are required for vehicle transfer in Ahmedabad ?

For the offline mode, collect the relevant documents and submit them at the local RTO for NOC. Once the NOC is received, and the applicable fees are paid, the new buyer can apply for a RC from his/her local RTO.

Do I need a roadworthy certificate to change vehicle ownership?

If a vehicle ownership has been transferred without a valid roadworthy certificate, then the licensing department will transfer the ownership of the vehicle to the new buyer but will withhold the license disc until a valid roadworthy certificate is produced.
