The Hyundai i20 has been one of the trendsetting premium hatchbacks in India. The Fluidic Design philosophy provided a modern and sophisticated exterior design that has remained relevant even today. As Hyundai continues to refresh its entire lineup of cars, the new 2020 Hyundai i20 has been launched starting from ₹6.80 lakhs (ex-showroom).

Hyundai had already begun accepting bookings for the 2020 Hyundai i20 at just ₹21,000 at Hyundai dealerships and through their online booking platform.

In terms of price, the new Hyundai i20 will compete against the Tata Altroz and the Maruti Suzuki Baleno in the premium hatchback space. Hyundai is offering four variants, starting from the base Magna and going up to the range topping Asta (O).

Brand New Design

While the previous generation of the Hyundai i20 featured a sporty design, the new 2020 Hyundai Elite i20 will appear sharper and more aggressive with angular design accents. The majority of the car has been redesigned, with brand new LED headlights and taillights, and a larger cascading grille that dominates the front of the 2020 Hyundai i20.

Hyundai is also bringing in more eye-catching colour options with Fiery Red and Metallic Copper being definite standouts along with Polar White, Starry Night, Typhoon Silver and Titan Grey. There are dual-tone colour options with Polar White with Black roof and Fiery Red with Black roof, which will be sportier options for many.

Next-Gen Features

The interiors also see a complete redesign and you can expect a completely new experience when you step inside the new 2020 Hyundai i20. From the minimalist dashboard to the new 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, you will find a more sophisticated and improved interior than the current generation Hyundai Elite i20.

Hyundai has been focusing more on the interior experience with its new offerings and you can expect the same treatment for the new 2020 Hyundai i20 as well. Ventilated seats and ambient lighting are firsts for the Hyundai i20 in India and the premium hatchback will also be equipped with a 7-speaker Bose sound system on the higher variants.

New Driving Experience

Hyundai has been revamping its engine and transmission offerings as well. The new 2020 Hyundai i20 will feature Hyundai’s naturally aspirated 1.2-litre petrol engine and the new 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine while a 1.5-litre diesel engine will also be offered.

The 1.2-litre petrol engine will be paired with a 5-speed manual or a CVT automatic gearbox. The turbo petrol engine will be the more exciting variant with Hyundai’s new iMT clutchless manual gearbox and a 7-speed DCT automatic gearbox. The diesel variants will only come with a 6-speed manual gearbox.

If the turbo petrol variants of Hyundai’s other cars are any indication, the new 2020 Hyundai i20 will be the exciting option for those looking for an exciting and fast premium hatchback.

The Hyundai Elite i20 was the last model to be revamped and Hyundai is making sure it pulls out all the stops to continue dominating the premium hatchback segment with the new Hyundai i20. There is hot competition for the 2020 Hyundai i20 with the Tata Altroz performing well and the Maruti Suzuki Baleno and Honda Jazz offering stiff competition as well.

There’s also the previous generation Hyundai Elite i20 that is still a very capable premium hatchback. One thing is for certain, the launch of the new 2020 Hyundai i20 is set to bring excitement to the premium hatchback segment and we expect it will do just as well as its predecessor.
