While buying a car, a customer will want to learn the benefits that she or he will get in return for the money invested. Owning a brand new car may give you feel good aura for some time unless the novelty finally wears off and you come down to the hard terms of what your car is offering you regarding features and the money invested. It is good to do a bit of research and study on the current cars that are within your budget range and the used cars that you are likely to find in a range that is less than that.
The New Car
Honda reliability is accepted by all, and the City is a famous model that any car enthusiast will dream of. The all new Honda City SV is a classic sedan that comes with an on road price of 9.83 lakhs. The City comes with all the features and comforts you would want in a car, from ABS and dual airbags to integrated audio systems and rear AC vents. On the technical side, the City offers a 1.5 litre engine that produces a respectable 119 BHP with a mileage of around 15 kmpl. The City does offer great value when new but when you consider the alternatives you can find on the used car market for much less than 10 lakhs, the value offered doesn’t seem so great.
The Luxury Used Car Alternatives
Let’s have a look at what the used car market has to offer. While the direct competitors of the Honda City SV, including the City itself, are available at prices well below 10 lakhs with prices averaging out at 5-7 lakhs, the used car market offers some very feature loaded luxury used cars at an average price of 8 lakhs.
Toyota Corolla Altis 1.8G
Starting off with the list is the Toyota Corolla Altis 1.8G from 2011. The used Corolla comes in at a price of 7.25 lakhs and when you consider that a new Corolla Altis will cost 13.7 lakhs, the used alternative seems very good. The car comes equipped with all the features of the Honda City at half the price. In addition, you get a more powerful 1.8 litre engine producing 140 BHP with a mileage of around 11-12 kmpl. Considering the price of a used Corolla Altis in comparison with the new Honda with nearly the same features, the used Corolla is a much better proposition.
Chevrolet Cruze LTZ AT
Next on the list we have the Chevrolet Cruze LTZ Automatic from 2011. This is the same Chevy Cruze that won the World Touring Car Championship (WTCC) in 2010 and 2011. The performance-minded Cruze comes with all the features of the Honda City and much more including a sunroof, electric folding mirrors, and of course, an automatic transmission. The Cruze’s performance credentials are backed up by a 2 litre engine producing a serious 166 BHP. The mileage is commendable as well, with the Cruze returning 13-14 kmpl. If it’s performance you’re looking for, you can’t go wrong with the Chevrolet Cruze, especially at a price of 7.5 lakhs instead of 16.8 lakhs for the same Cruze but new.
Skoda Superb Elegance 1.8 AT
Luxury always comes at a rather high price. While it is quite hard to get a German luxury brand under 10 lakhs, there is actually something that may offer better luxury at our price restriction. The Skoda Superb is truly befitting of its name. The Skoda Superb offers limousine-like dimensions and comfort at a cheaper price than the German luxury brands. The same applies to the used Superb as well. Here you get the top-of-the-line Elegance variant with an automatic transmission and a 1.8 liter engine belting out 160 BHP. The feature list is also quite expansive and comes with 9 airbags and an Adaptive Front Light System that automatically illuminates the road ahead at different speeds to provide proper visibility at all times. All this luxury at a very affordable price of 7.5 lakhs in place of 19.8 lakhs for a new Skoda Superb.
Luxury and Value
Together in One Package
These cars aren’t creations of fiction but really do exist at prices that most people rarely know about. While a new car does offer the latest features but when you can get similar features and sometimes more, used luxury cars are much better buys. Luxury doesn’t have to come at a price. The Used Car market has luxury at a fraction of the price that you would be insane to ignore.
