Hyundai i20 N-Line undraped

The Korean automaker in India, Hyundai has recently unveiled the sportier version of its widely popular car, the Hyundai i20. Hyundai i20 N-Line will be the first one to hit Indian shores from the N performance segment of the Korean car brand. As the mainstream i20 has done lucratively well for Hyundai over the years, it’s thrilling to know what its sportier avatar is bringing.

What is N-Line?

Carmakers across the globe have their respective subdivisions which specifically work on high-performance cars based on their mainstream cars, i.e., BMW has its M Performance division, Mercedes-Benz has its AMG, Jaguar Land Rover has its SVR. Similarly, Hyundai has its N-badged cars.

The N badged cars from Hyundai are purely hyper-tuned performance cars or in more colloquial terms: sports cars. The ‘N’ in the name ‘N-Line’ denotes Namyang R&D Centre in South Korea where Hyundai and its owned subsidiary automaker Kia test their new vehicles.

N-Line models are also developed by the Hyundai N division and are somewhat like N-badged cars. But the sportiness N-Line carries is some sporty cosmetic upgrades over the regular models.

Most portions of the exterior resemble a sportier aura. On the front the LED headlamps and deep fixed fog lamp housing flank on either side of the full-back grill that seems inspired by the chequered flag. Red accent underlines the setup.

The side profile is ornamented with 16-inch alloy wheels, red-accented side sill, and red front brake calipers. On the rear, the i20 N-Line gets sporty finishing, twin-exhaust pipes that blow out a sporty revving sound, a tailgate spoiler with side wings, and a dark chrome bead linking the two tail lamps.

Hyundai N-Line Interiors

The dashboard is much similar to the standard Hyundai i20. Nevertheless, the red ambient lighting and red accents throughout the cabin help the sporty outlook. The leatherette seats have chequered flag design with the N logo. A bespoke three-spoke steering wheel and N-branded leather gear knob, and sporty metal pedals will deliver the driver a high-tuned sports car feel. The floor is garnished with multiple N-patterns.

Hyundai i20 N-Line Powertrains

Under the hood, the Hyundai i20 N-Line is equipped with a 1.0L turbocharged petrol engine which will transmit power through a 6-Speed iMT or 7-Speed DCT gearbox. Paddle shifters are also part of the package in DCT transmission variants.

The turbocharged sporty i-20 N-Line is tuned to produce a sound that has a note of sportiness, just like full-fledged N-badged cars. Along with the disc brakes in all four wheels, the suspension has been crafted for a sportier set-up that allows better manoeuvring and an enhanced planted drive.

Hyundai i20 N-Line price

The Hyundai i20 N-Line is expected to hit the market by September 2021. The hatchback is anticipated to perch ₹1 to 1.5 lakhs higher than the ongoing top model of the standard i20 priced ₹11.40 Lakhs. For this price structure, Hyundai i20 N-Line won’t have any direct rivals in India.
