The renowned French automaker, Citroen has finally decided to venture into India. While Citroen may be unfamiliar to many Indians, the French carmaker has built a global reputation for building cars that prioritise passenger comfort above all else. With a global lineup that includes hatchbacks and SUVs, Citroen will be making its debut in India with one of their more popular SUVs, the Citroen C5 Aircross.

The C5 Aircross is the flagship vehicle which Citroen will launch in India by April 2021. Estimated to cost ₹28-30 lakhs, Citroen aims to set a benchmark in style, comfort and innovation in its segment. For India, the Aircross comes in two variants: Feel and Shine. Shine being the top model, has a panoramic sunroof as standard, which the Feel doesn’t have.

Citroen C5 Aircross Exteriors

In its simplest form, the Citroen C5 Aircross is a very comfortable and enchantingly beautiful SUV. The moment you lay your eyes on it you will see the use of rectangular geometry in an artistic form which tells a lot about how the French visualize their vehicles.

While the C5 Aircross is a large vehicle, its clever design masks its immense size very well. At first glance, the wide body commands an undeniable road presence while eluding to its focus on providing a stable ride. The C5 Aircross’ front cleanly incorporates a split headlamp design that is aesthetically pleasing. The C5 Aircross makes the impression of a muscled gentleman, quiet but not to be messed with.

The front rectangular air scoops add a designer look to the front, while the same design elements are also followed on the side and rear. The 18-inch alloy wheels with a swirl design are not only eye catching but also give the vehicle a subtle dynamic profile. At the back, you’ll be wondering how creative a rectangle can look with the same geometry used in the tail light. The blacked-out roof incorporates the panoramic sunroof, adding further flair to an already stylish SUV.

Citroen C5 Aircross Interior

The interiors are no less either, and it wouldn’t be wrong to say that they are a notch above the exteriors. On the inside as well you would notice the clever use of rectangles and straight lines in designing the dashboard. The dash as well as the steering wheel has a soft feel finish and is feature laden, allowing you to perform a multitude of functions. The MID is completely digital and soft touch materials on the dash give the C5 Aircross an elegant and premium feel.

Storage space has been judiciously given, in all little nooks and corners you have a space to store something. However the standout feature of the C5 Aircross is comfort, the seats are designed keeping utmost comfort in mind. The driver’s seat has multiple adjustments which make driving a smooth affair. The rear seats are unconventional with all three of them being  independently adjustable as per the comfort of the rear passenger, unlike the bench layout that most cars have, they also have a certain degree of recline as well.

However, that’s not where comfort comes from, Citroen has something called the Flying Carpet Effect, meaning that comfort on the C5 Aircross is something that you have never experienced before. And how do they do that? Well, their suspension comes equipped with Progressive Hydraulic Cushions which smoothens away both large bumps and minor surface imperfections leading you to have a flying carpet like ride.

Citroen C5 Aircross Engine and Performance

The C5 Aircross comes with a mighty 2-litre turbo diesel engine mated to an 8 speed automatic gearbox which delivers 177 hp and 400 Nm of torque. The numbers and the powertrain are just right for a vehicle of this size and we can imagine that the ride quality will also be superbly comfortable.

One look at the gear console and you would be wondering how does the joystick-like element even work, but that is the beauty of it. One simply has to tug the lever forward and backward to get the desired gear type. Although there won’t be a manual transmission, there is however a manual mode for enthusiastic drivers who dwell on the thrill of riding a manual. To activate, one simply has to press the M button and engage the gears via paddle shifters.

The Aircross comes with three drive modes Sport, Normal and Eco, and four terrain selector modes viz Normal (All terrain), Snow, Sand, and Traction Control Off. The drive modes tune the engine as per their names while the terrain modes change the traction as per the selector.

The claimed mileage for the Citroen C5 Aircross stands at 18.6 kmpl as per ARAI.
